The forthcoming FCMB Hackathon, scheduled for October 27-29, has already attracted over 2,000 programmers in just one week.

The large number of participants is evidence of the program’s widespread interest among techies and of First City Monument Bank and FCMB Group’s dedication to fostering widespread innovation.

The 50-hour online Hackathon, organized in collaboration with Ingressive For Good, will use the functionality of FCMB’s application programming interfaces to further open banking efforts. It will bring together a wide range of tech enthusiasts to build proofs of concept and MVPs together for the purpose of addressing a particular problem.

The FCMB Hackathon stands out because it is able to provide a lively stage for more than two thousand software creators, engineers, students, designers, ideators, and other members of the technology industry. They will collaborate on developing sustainable solutions and projects to address pressing societal and commercial issues.

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon, or codefest, is a social coding event where computer programmers and others interested in the field join together to collaborate on the development of existing software or the creation of new software.

The phrase “hackathon” is a combination of “hacker,” which implies “skilled programmer,” and “marathon,” which is known for its long duration.

The concept of intrapreneurship is now widely adopted by engineering departments, especially those at web-based organisations. A hackathon may be organised to accomplish a specific task, but more commonly, it serves as a forum in which companies can explore employees’ creative, out-of-the-box ideas with minimal investment. Staff members are encouraged to work across functional silos within a certain time limit and provided the resources they need to do so successfully.

Participants in today’s hackathons not only develop their own ideas and products but also interact with sponsors, participate in workshops, deliver presentations, and network with potential employers.
