NITDA collaborates with Stakeholders to boost National Outsourcing Strategy

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has organized a 1-day stakeholders consultation forum on the National Outsourcing Strategy (NOS) in Abuja. Nigeria

The program held recently was part of the federal government’s efforts to create a fair and inclusive society by giving stakeholders an opportunity to express their views and opinions on the proposed NOS, according to the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, represented by the Ag. Director, Digital Economy Department, Engr. Salisu Kaka.

The participants included the Academia, relevant MDA’s, ICT Related Organizations, as well as Government representatives, and key relevant stakeholders in the Digital Economy sector.

The NITDA 7 strategic pillars

Inuwa said that the agency had crafted 7 strategic pillars based on the country’s unique environment and strengths,  to help the country achieve the vision of the National Outsourcing Strategy, which is to make Nigeria a prime global outsourcing destination.

In line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) for a Digital Nigeria, the stakeholder’s engagement will enable Nigeria to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the global value chain, leveraging its competitive advantages of having the largest youth population in Africa, mature telecoms market, strategic geographic location, and vibrant innovation ecosystem to create millions of jobs. 

“We, in NITDA, call on all stakeholders to support the implementation of the strategy. This, we are confident, will facilitate the development of a resilient and vibrant digital economy.” He said.

According to him, the strategy synergises with the National Development Plan and addresses key focus areas of Mr President, which are economic diversification, youth employment and security.

 “As a national strategy, we encourage all stakeholders to cascade this strategy so that we can build a highly competitive market, making Nigeria the prime Global Outsourcing Destination,” Inuwa said.

Creating 5 Million Jobs in Nigeria by 2030

The National Outsourcing Strategy aims to deliver 5 Million Jobs in Nigeria by 2030.

This is according to the Head of the Digital Technology Adaption Unit, NITDA, Dr Ayodele A. Bakare, in his Presentation. 

He discussed the summary information about the proposed NOS while emphasising the primary objective of the document.

“The National Outsourcing Strategy which align with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy aims to deliver 5 Million Jobs in Nigeria by 2030.”

“To achieve this ambitious target, the strategy is focused on seven critical pillars, which include the following: Outsourcing, Infrastructure, Human Capital Development, Trust, Privacy and Security, Branding and Promotion, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and lastly, Finance and Incentives,” he said.

Committed to digital economy policy for Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is committed to implementing the National Digital economy policy for digital Nigeria, with the mandate to create a framework for the planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices in Nigeria.

Created in April 2001, the agency is saddled with the responsibility of implementing the Nigerian Information Technology Policy and coordinating general IT development in the country.

Additionally, NITDA is the clearing house for all IT projects and infrastructural development in the country. It is the prime Agency for e-government implementation, Internet governance and general IT development in Nigeria.
