Andela has obtained a full ownership position in the evaluation platform Qualified, which is responsible for certifying the best engineering talent. Andela’s global community would grow by around 3.6 million engineering experts as a result of the deal, which was finalized for a sum that was not disclosed.

These technological talents were formerly members of the online community Codewars, which is managed by Qualified and provides a platform for technical talents to compete against one another and improve their practical coding abilities through the use of gamified challenges.

Andela’s Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Jeremy Johnson, released a statement in which he expressed optimism about Andela’s developing capability to locate and certify talents.

According to what he had to say about the matter, With the Qualified acquisition, Andela expands and accelerates our ability to source and expertly assess talent.”

“Labour marketplaces are constrained by inefficiencies between supply, demand, and quality. Qualified allows us to address those inefficiencies by providing the certified right talent at the right time. Companies will continue to trust that talent sourced through Andela has the needed skills regardless of where they live and work,” Johnson included.

The Significance of Andela’s Purchase

This will be the first purchase that Andela has officially acknowledged, and it comes on the heels of the company’s renewed focus on senior developers. Andela has expanded to provide support for thriving communities of technical talent in over 170 locations across the world, thanks to venture capital funding totalling over $381 million. Particularly, the company places a strong emphasis on developing countries and markets, such as Nigeria, where it started doing business for the very first time in 2014.

Jake Hoffner, CEO and co-founder of Qualified, commented on the opportunities that the deal brings by stating that the expanded Andela product will enable businesses to hire software engineers through processes that will reveal what their performance would be like on the job. Hoffner was speaking in reference to the possibilities that the deal brings.

“The tech industry has historically relied on hiring practices that have proven to be ineffective. The expanded platform will allow companies to create hiring processes for software engineers that are predictive of their on-the-job performance. In addition, we provide companies and our growing tech community a bigger, broader, and better opportunity to connect globally,” he explained.

Qualified markets itself as the most advanced platform in the world for evaluating software developers, and its clientele list includes companies such as Facebook, Zoom, and Klarna.

A deal Qualified secured before Andela

As of January 2023, Qualified made public its intention to integrate its ATS with that of Lever. This was aimed at improving the quality of the hiring process. The dynamic talent relationship management tools offered by Lever are made much more enjoyable by Qualified recently implemented interface with Lever. Sending candidate assessment invites may now be done automatically thanks to Qualified’s interface with Lever, which is based on Lever’s Trigger Stages and Tagging System.

Tags are automatically updated as applicants make their way through the evaluation pipeline with language such as “Invited,” “Started,” and “Submitted” in order to provide the most accurate tracking of progress. For a more streamlined experience, the findings of candidates’ assessments are instantly populated into Lever’s Candidate Notebook. This eliminates the need to toggle between several sites. Everything you need to know about a candidate can be found in a single location. Investigate in greater detail the various ways in which you can get started right now.

Andela took the right step towards providing resources for its talent pool by acquiring Qualified, being that the latter is also interested in creating easy access to technical skills for tech enthusiasts.
