The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has called on governments, public and private sector stakeholders to prioritize initiatives that will promote gender equality and bridge the digital divide for women in the wake of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, which highlights the importance of leveraging innovation and technology to achieve gender equality.

The NIPR Lagos Chapter made the call in a statement as it joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 with the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

According to the statement, the Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of NIPR, Mrs Comfort Obot Nwanwkwo noted that the world is moving towards a digital age, and women must not be left behind.

Gender Gap and Access to Technology

Nwanwkwo said that gender disparity in access to tehnology must be looked into by all stakeholders to ensure a balanced society.

“It is critical to address the gender gap in access to technology and digital literacy to ensure that women can benefit from the opportunities that come with the digital age.

“As a professional body committed to promoting excellence in the practice of Public Relations, the Lagos Chapter of NIPR recognizes the need for increased awareness and support for women’s access to technology and digital literacy. We also acknowledge the remarkable achievements of women in the field of technology and innovation, and we encourage more women to join the industry.” She said.

“We call on government and private sector stakeholders to prioritize initiatives that will promote gender equality and bridge the digital divide for women. This includes policies that support equal access to technology, digital skills training programs, and the promotion of women’s participation in technology and innovation.

“We also urge individuals and organizations to embrace diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and ensure that women have equal opportunities to contribute to the growth and development of their organizations.” she continued.

Established in 1963, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), is the non-governmental, not-for-profit professional body of qualified Public Relations practitioners.

The NIPR’s Digital PR Digest aim to accelerate media usage

The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), in collaboration with Upticomm Marketing Company, recently launched a professional journal tagged: Digital PR Digest, aimed at accelerating the adoption and usage of social media for public relations practice.

The Digital PR Digest will help its readers succeed big in business through unrivalled access to digital communication strategies, tactics, how-tos and do it yourself nuggets to help them improve their profiles online using best-in-class storytelling.

The not-for-sale Digest also contains lifestyle content to help readers maintain work life balance. It is also available in hard and soft copies and will be published annually to mark the Lagos Digital PR Summit, according to the Founder of the Lagos Digital PR Summit, Segun McMedal.

According to the chairman of the Lagos NIPR, Comfort Obot Nwankwo, the digital publication is coming at a very important time when the adoption of social media apps is growing to reach multi-channel audiences. The thrust of public relations remains managing stakeholders’ interests and social media to reach them faster and cheaper.
