SkyCliQ, a UK African-focused company, has now launched registration for their waitlist. With its community-based purchasing and delivery network, the company intends to disrupt the international online retail market.

The company is revolutionising the small parcel delivery area of the industry by allowing community members to engage in the game.

As a result, the platform is another example of the convergence of technology and community in an attempt to upset the established system.

Sending and receiving parcels in Africa from the United States or Europe remains one of the most expensive routes in the world. This clearly creates an opportunity for a cost-effective solution that not only provides market access in today’s global marketplace but also reduces the associated expenditures.

How SkyCliQ will Operate

The SkyCliQ marketplace will utilise the power of the community in a “uber-like” manner in order to meet the shopping and delivery requirements of the rapidly expanding markets in the initial destination cities of Accra, Kigali, and Lagos.

These cities will serve as the first stop for SkyCliQ customers. According to Amanda Evans, who is responsible for community engagement, “It should not be frustrating, if as a parent you need a book or an educational device for your child and it cannot be found locally, nor should it be prohibitively expensive to procure a specific health aid to improve your wellbeing. And if an accessory will make a difference to your wellbeing then you should be able to reach it.”

SkyCliQ will offer delivery charges that are up to 70 percent lower than the prices charged by traditional couriers. Furthermore, consumers who place purchases through the site will not be required to make payments until their items have been delivered to their destination.

As a model for the sharing economy, SkyCliQ is not just about enabling people to unlock and realise the value of their own resources; it is also about enabling people to contribute to the wellbeing of society, which in turn has a beneficial impact on the lives of other people.

SkyCliQ’s Executive Vets the services

As Amanda points out,  “the joy and intense feelings of gratitude, when as an example a needed health aid that couldn’t be found locally to provide needed comfort is received, is priceless. Similarly, receiving a small but needed part that will make a machine work reliably again for a community, creates immeasurable levels of satisfaction. Often it is such small items in the small parcel segment that make a real difference to the lives of people.”

You won’t be charged a fee to post things on the platform, and you’ll have access to an ever-expanding network of retail outlets to choose from.’’

Stripe is the company that processes payments made through the marketplace, and SkyCliQ collaborates with the customs agents in each of the places where its services are offered to ensure compliance and disclosure.
