Tecno, a smartphone company initially focusing on developing countries in Africa, has made significant strides in expanding its presence across new markets.

Among their budget-targeted portfolio, the Camon line has emerged as one of their flagship offerings.

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G, in particular, shines as a standout device, featuring an array of impressive features and design elements that make it a noteworthy contender in the competitive smartphone market.

The Camon 20 Premier 5G boasts a distinctive and stylish appearance, with a unique camera island design and a geometric pattern on the back. The rear of the phone is crafted from a hard rubbery material with a vegan leather texture, providing a comfortable grip and a well-balanced feel. Weighing 202.5 grams, the device feels solid and substantial, but considering its large 6.67-inch display and robust 5,000 mAh battery, the weight is justified.

Display and Multimedia Experience

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display of the Camon 20 Premier offers an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring a visually pleasing experience. However, it falls slightly short in terms of brightness, with a maximum of around 493 nits.

Although an automatic brightness boost enhances outdoor visibility up to 684 nits, using the phone under direct sunlight may still pose some challenges. Nevertheless, the OLED panel delivers deep blacks and infinite contrast, enhancing multimedia consumption.

Furthermore, the Camon 20 Premier supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG content due to its hardware decoding capabilities. The phone holds the highest Widevine L1 DRM certification, allowing streaming services like Netflix to provide Full HD streams, maximizing the phone’s display potential.

Performance and Software

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset, the Camon 20 Premier demonstrates commendable efficiency and performance.

The phone features four fast Cortex-A78 cores and four efficient Cortex-A55 cores, along with a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. With 8GB of RAM and 512GB of non-expandable storage, the device handles multitasking and gaming smoothly. Tecno’s attention to cooling, including a large graphene sheet, vapour chamber, and high thermal conductivity polymer gel, ensures that the Dimensity 8050 runs relatively cool even during intensive tasks.

Running on Android 13 with HiOS 13 on top, the Camon 20 Premier provides a user-friendly interface. Tecno’s HiOS skin has been improved, reducing pre-installed bloat and ads, resulting in a cleaner user experience compared to previous iterations.

Camera Capabilities

The highlight of the Camon 20 Premier is its camera setup, which offers versatility and reliability.

The main camera features a 50MP Samsung sensor with tri-axis sensor-shift stabilization technology and laser autofocus. Notably, the phone boasts a super large 108MP ultrawide camera, featuring autofocus and doubling as a macro camera. Additionally, there’s a 2MP depth sensor for supplementary shots.

The main camera captures impressive 4K videos with excellent detail and colors, while the ultrawide camera delivers clear and sharp 4K videos, albeit with a slight yellow tint. The phone incorporates Ultra Steady electronic image stabilization (EIS) for smoother footage, available up to 1080p resolution.

Battery Life and Fast Charging

With a robust 5,000 mAh battery, the Camon 20 Premier offers reliable battery life without being extraordinary. Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset, the phone demonstrates commendable power efficiency. It supports 45W fast charging, allowing users to recharge the phone fully in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

In conclusion, the Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G is a well-rounded smartphone that stands out in its price range. Its impressive camera setup, distinctive design, and sturdy build quality make it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

While the display’s brightness could have been better, the Camon 20 Premier remains a solid device that delivers a satisfying multimedia experience. With reliable battery life, efficient performance, and a cleaner user interface through HiOS 13, the phone offers a compelling package.

For those looking for a feature-packed smartphone without breaking the bank, the Camon 20 Premier is undoubtedly worth considering.
