YouTube launches television service beginning with WNBA games

Google-owned YouTube has now officially debuted its streaming television service, the new Multiview for YouTube TV and Primetime Channels, beginning with WNBA games, after testing it for the previous several months.

Multiview is now available for use on YouTube TV and Primetime Channels, as revealed by YouTube. Since March, the feature has been in beta for both sports and non-gaming content. In anticipation of the next NFL season with Sunday Ticket, the firm is also rolling out Multiview for WNBA League Pass subscribers.

Multiview is a feature of smart TVs and streaming devices like Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV which allows users to watch up to four channels at once. However, Google indicated that Multiview is not supported on mobile and web platforms at this time.

Even if Multiview reaches more people, YouTube is still curating the content to feature rather than letting viewers decide on which games they want to watch. Google says this is so they can provide users with a better experience overall, but they are working on making it more flexible and adding additional features.

Multiview’s Home page and Watch Next recommendations will include “Recommended multiviews” for WNBA Primetime Channel subscribers. When the app is first opened, it will automatically choose the default stream and begin playing the audio from that source. With a single flick of the remote, you can switch between channels, go full screen, and then return to the grid layout.

Multiview the latest in-line feature

Sports fans and other viewers who want to watch many streams at once might enjoy YouTube’s Multiview feature. Following its formal debut, it is likely to become more popular among viewers who wish to follow a wide variety of sports and events in real time.

Initially unveiled in March, Multiview was created so that sports fans may watch numerous games at once without having to flip stations. The addition of non-sports content makes it possible for users to browse through a broader selection of titles simultaneously.

YouTube TV has been updating its service with features like vital plays, fantasy view (to check in on your fantasy sports teams), and now multiview is the latest feature released in line to attempt to attract sports enthusiasts.
