The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) started the third Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon to support new technologies and local content through cutting-edge research, which aligns with its Strategic Vision Plan 2023-2025. This work helps Nigeria’s economy grow sustainably.

To promote innovation and development, the NCC welcomes Nigerian Tech Hubs and Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) to participate in the Talent Hunt Research Hackathon.

This NCC course covers three essential topics: blockchain-enabled data protection solutions for regulatory compliance, assistive technology solutions for older people and people with disabilities, and rural renewable energy solutions.

The hackathon uses new digital technologies to encourage people to develop new ideas and make local materials for the telecommunications industry. By doing this, it helps Nigeria’s economy grow and its society get better.

The Talent Hunt Research Hackathon registration process

This competition helps turn innovative ideas into hardware or software solutions for industry and society. Note that the best three proposals, one from each region, will earn N10 million each for development.

The enterprise must provide a certificate of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), must not have received support from the Commission, must have clear relevance to one of the three thematic areas above, and must provide a clear problem statement, proposed solution, and roadmap to deployment to participate in the competition.

Other requirements include a proof of concept, which may also show the technical feasibility of the idea with a diagram, algorithm, existing models, or case studies; the solution must be new, and the applicant must state that they own the intellectual property; the solution, including the development of a prototype, must be finished within 6 months of receiving the grant; and a detailed plan for commercializing the prototype must be submitted.

The Entry Submission format says the plan must include an idea, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), a solution, a current sweat equity investment, product-market fit status, verifiable go-to-market status, growth feasibility assurances, a maturity model, and a timeline. When it comes to disaster recovery,

All applications must be submitted online and follow the entry rules. There is no cost to enter the competition, and the Commission will keep complete control of and ownership of the intellectual property of the solutions made.

The entries must come from a tech hub or innovation-driven enterprise, which must show proof of a relationship with the start-up or solution being submitted, a 4-page executive summary of the project concept, a 3-5 minute video of the pilot project, the names, ages, contact information, passport photos, profiles, and websites (if available) of all team members, as well as the applicant’s email address.

Companies that are interested and qualify should send the papers asked for in a zip folder to https://ncc.gov.ng/talenthuntresearchhackathon2023. Friday, September 22, 2023, is the last day to apply.

The Commission has been advertising the hackathon for three weeks and wants people in the startup community to remember that the application deadline is Friday, September 22, 2023.
