A fire incident at the Samsung Headquarters in Abuja has been successfully contained, with no casualties reported.

The fire broke out at the popular Samsung Headquarters located near Banex Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Tuesday morning, lasting for several hours.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the FCT Fire Spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Tauheed, confirmed that there were no casualties recorded in the incident.

The Fire Incident

The fire was primarily commercial in nature and engulfed a two-story building housing Samsung products. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire resulted from careless welding activities near a pile of empty and combustible cartons.

The incident was reported by Mrs. Ngozi, the owner of Mozini Spa, situated behind Furniture House, who made a distress call to the FCT Fire Service at 7:38 p.m.

Upon receiving the report, the Asokoro Fire Station arrived at the scene at 7:43 p.m. However, the firefighters encountered hostility from some hoodlums who began pelting their fire truck with stones.

In response to the safety concerns, the leader of the firefighting crew, DSF Ahmed Katsina, directed the driver to take an alternate route to Ahmadu Bello Way and alerted the police control room. The arrival of Nigeria Police personnel was instrumental in dispersing the unruly crowd and securing the area for firefighting efforts to commence.

Unfortunately, due to the initial delay caused by the hostility encountered, the fire intensified and spread throughout the building. However, concerted efforts were made to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and the nearby filling station.]

Hours-Long Effort to Control the Fire

The fire continued to rage for over six hours, from 7:38 p.m. on November 6 until 01:37 a.m. on November 7, before it was finally brought under control. Both the Federal Fire Service and FCT Fire Service maintained one station each on standby until the situation was fully resolved.

The acting director of FCT Fire Service, Engr. Zacchaeus Adebayo, closely monitored the firefighting operations from the outset until the fire was successfully contained. He commended the firefighters for their steadfastness and commitment to the operation and pledged to promptly enhance operational conditions.

Despite the intensity of the fire, the joint efforts of multiple fire stations and agencies played a critical role in preventing the blaze from spreading to other buildings and the nearby filling station, effectively mitigating potential damage to property and lives.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for cooperation between authorities and the community to ensure the prompt and efficient response to such emergencies.
