As a result of the ongoing KZN floods in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal, MTN confirmed on Tuesday that 500 of its sites have been forced to close (KZN).

It has been reported by the South African telecommunications company that flooding has caused a lot of damage to infrastructure and power outages in the province.

Furthermore, according to the enormous network provider, areas affected by the outage include Durban South, the South Coast, Umlazi, Amanzimtoti, Ballito, and Salt Rock, among others.

Jacqui O’Sullivan, MTN SA’s spokesperson, announced “The flooding in the KZN region has caused power outages at many of our sites, and while we have battery back-up at many of the sites, these batteries have been depleted”

“Our major challenge right now is gaining access to the sites with many roads being damaged or flooded, preventing us from refueling our batteries or restoring power to the site,” she added

As an outcome of the flooding, social media has been devastated with images of cars floating down major highways, roads collapsing, and even places of worship being swept away. The hashtag #KZNFloods has been trending top of the trends list on Twitter on Tuesday.

Sullivan reiterates that the company’s customers may be certain that its specialists are hard at work restoring connections in the impacted locations.

“We know those affected need to be able to contact their families and friends. Access to connectivity is our priority and we are deploying all possible resources to assist
