In order to introduce a fresh and cutting-edge mobile payment solution in Kenya, Vienna Payment Solutions (VIPASO), a global supplier of mobile payment technology, has partnered with Interswitch, a prominent digital payment and commerce firm in Africa.

Without the use of cards, mobile money wallets, or an internet connection, VIPASO is a solution that provides customers with an easy and different method to pay for goods and services using their smartphones or feature phones.

The two apps that make up VIPASO are the merchant app and the customer app. They can connect with one another using Bluetooth low-energy communication. Users of the consumer app can create a unique QR code for every transaction by connecting their bank accounts or credit cards to the app. Merchants can instantly collect money by scanning the QR code with the merchant app.

As an alternative, an Android Point of Sale terminal that can read the QR code and handle the payment can be used in conjunction with the consumer app. Any smartphone or feature phone with Bluetooth and a camera will work with the solution.

Revolutionising the market

The partners claim that because VIPASO solves some of the problems and restrictions of the current payment methods—such as expensive transaction costs, network outages, fraud, and security hazards—it is a game-changer for the Kenyan market.

According to Matthias Horvath, CEO of VIPASO, “VIPASO is a revolutionary solution that offers a simple, reliable, safe, and universal way to pay for anything, anywhere, anytime, using any phone.” “We are honoured to partner with Interswitch in East Africa on our mission to make VIPASO technology available to everyone, everywhere.”

Interswitch’s Country General Manager for Kenya, Romana Rajput, stated that the company’s collaboration with VIPASO is an extension of its mission to support digitization and financial inclusion in Kenya by offering dependable and creative solutions to merchants and consumers alike.

“The VIPASO solution reflects Interswitch’s dedication to being a catalyst for industry innovation, adapting to changing trends, and meeting the evolving needs of customers in the pursuit of reliable solutions for financial inclusion,” he stated.

A tactical partnership

Interswitch and VIPASO have formed a strategic cooperation that capitalises on their respective competencies and advantages. The network, platform, and infrastructure that Interswitch offers allow VIPASO to function safely and smoothly for customers, merchants, and banks. VIPASO supplies the technology, expertise, and experience needed for Interswitch to present a distinctive and market-leading payment solution.

According to the partners, they have already begun implementing VIPASO in Kenya and have immediate plans to extend the programme to more nations in the area. They stated that a variety of industries, including banks, hotels, on-the-go services, financial institutions, and retailers, have expressed interest in and favourable feedback regarding VIPASO. These industries recognise the potential and value of VIPASO to improve customer satisfaction and corporate performance.

“We are confident that VIPASO will transform the way people pay and get paid in Kenya and beyond, and we look forward to working with Interswitch to make this happen,” Horvath stated.

“We are excited to introduce VIPASO to the Kenyan market and we invite customers and merchants to join us in this journey of innovation and inclusion,” Rajput stated.
