Four Nigerian startups have made it to the final roster of the Africa Tech Summit Nairobi 2024 Investment Showcase, despite the drop in financing for African startups in 2023.

On February 14 and 15, they will showcase their solutions to a broad group of investors, industry insiders, and other innovators.

The Africa Tech Summit is a premier venue for networking and promoting tech innovation in Africa, and it is the organization behind the Investment Showcase. The objective of the Showcase is to promote cooperation and investment prospects in order to close the funding gap within the ecosystem.

More than 250 entries were received from all over Africa—from Kenya, Egypt, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, South Sudan, Malawi, Angola, Morocco, Botswana, Benin, Congo, Uganda, South Africa, Sierra Leone, and more—showing the continent’s enormous potential for collaboration and innovation.

Get to know the Nigerian startups

The ten projects that made the cut, which are in the financial, agritech, e-commerce, Web3, and climate-tech sectors, are seeking to raise somewhere between $500,000 and $15 million. Among them are:

Bingtellar: Nigerian Bingtellar is developing payment infrastructure for enterprises, contractors, remote workers, and freelancers worldwide. Their ramp product makes it easier to buy and sell cryptocurrencies and enables quick money transfers throughout Africa.

Dukka: To help small businesses in Africa accept all digital payment methods, Dukka, a Nigerian startup, is digitizing bookkeeping solutions and payments.

Feegor: Feegor is a business-to-business (B2B) online marketplace that links SMEs with major distributors and manufacturers.

Regxta: Regxta provides financial services to underprivileged populations, including internally displaced people and refugees, as well as microbusinesses in rural and periurban areas of Africa.

Zedi Padi, a marketing agency that helps businesses grow, has also ranked these four Nigerian startups as some of the most promising ones to watch in 2024. They provide creative answers to particular problems and opportunities in the Nigerian and African markets.

The other six African startups invited to the Investment Showcase

Node Bio: Node Bio is a Kenyan firm that is developing crop treatments that successfully fend off the negative effects of climate change by leveraging cutting-edge plant science. With the help of their creative solution, Farmchef, plants may survive water-related stresses, including drought and intense heat.

Valu: Valu is the top Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) fintech platform in Egypt, providing convenient and all-inclusive financial solutions to consumers and enterprises.

FutureLink Technologies: FutureLink Technologies is an online marketplace that makes it easier for people to acquire finance and makes it easier for financial cooperatives in Uganda to make payments. The first African-owned business to win the 2022 Global SME Finance Platinum Award for Product Innovation is FutureLink Technologies.

Tausi App: Tausi App is a beauty tech startup based in Kenya that uses technology to connect beauticians with prospective clients. Thus far, Tausi has enrolled more than 6,000 beauticians.

Peercarbon: Based in Kenya, Peercarbon is a climate fintech company that uses advanced sustainable finance technologies and detailed emissions data to assist small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa. Businesses can easily track their carbon footprint with the help of Peercarbon’s Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, which provides real-time information.

URBANET: Kenya’s URBANET offers views on decentralization, sustainable urban development, and municipal and local governance while fostering global discourse on development initiatives.

An opportunity to showcase tech innovations in Africa

“Amidst the challenging backdrop of decreased funding for African startups in 2023, the resilient spirit of entrepreneurship continues to thrive across the continent, and we are delighted to introduce these 10 pioneering ventures for this edition of the Investment Showcase,” said Henry Umunnakwe, Ecosystems & Sales Manager of Africa Tech Summit.

The primary aim of the Showcase is to highlight and cultivate relationships for these projects with both domestic and international investors. Over 500 participants are expected to attend the Summit, where they will have the chance to network, learn, and become aware of the newest developments and prospects in African technology.

The Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya will host the Africa Tech Summit Nairobi 2024 on February 14 and 15. More than fifty leading experts will talk throughout the two days of interactive workshops and panel discussions covering a wide range of subjects, including fintech, e-commerce, agritech, healthtech, edtech, Web3, and climate-tech.
