Google has stated that it intends to work with the Ministry of Information Communications and The Digital Economy to bolster Kenya’s efforts to improve its cybersecurity.
The news was made when Kenyan President William Ruto paid a state visit to the USA. This was the first state visit to Washington, D.C., by a living African head of state in almost twenty years.

Kenya’s eCitizen Platform Defense: Collaboration and Evaluation
To make its eCitizen platform safer, Kenya’s Department of Immigration and Citizen Services is looking at Google Cloud’s CyberShield solution and Mandiant’s experience as part of the partnership.
Governments can use CyberShield to protect web-facing assets, build better cyber threat defences, and help teams learn the skills and procedures that make security operations work well.
In addition, Google will help Kenya develop more data-driven innovations, improve digital skills, and use AI safely and responsibly to benefit society.
Google has long recognised the critical role investments in secure technology infrastructure have on connecting communities, expanding education, and driving healthy economic development within Africa and worldwide.
Google’s Impact in Africa
The technology giant had worked with governments from all over Africa on many digital projects since 2007 when it opened its first office in Sub-Saharan Africa in Nairobi. It promised to put $1 billion into Africa over five years in 2021 to help with digital change efforts, such as creating better connections and investing in new businesses.
Since then, Google has invested more than $900 million in the region and expects to fulfil its commitment by 2026.

Google has significantly influenced digital transformation in Kenya, fostering innovation and economic growth. Through initiatives like the Google Africa Developer Scholarship, Google has empowered Kenyan developers with advanced skills. Additionally, Google’s support for small businesses via tools like Google My Business has enhanced their online presence, boosting local economies.
The company’s investment in internet infrastructure, including the Equiano subsea cable, has improved connectivity, facilitating broader internet access. Moreover, Google’s digital literacy programs have enabled many Kenyans to leverage technology effectively, driving societal progress. Overall, Google’s efforts have catalysed Kenya’s digital landscape, promoting sustainable development and digital inclusion.
