The Lagos State Upskill Programme (LAG-UP) has been introduced by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development in association with GFA Technologies and Wema Bank Plc. Its goal is to close the digital divide and provide the state’s youth with the necessary skills for independence.

Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, spoke at the program’s inaugural event that was recently held at Alausa. He emphasised the program’s importance in promoting innovation and improving learning opportunities for SMEs and young people throughout the state.

He declared, “Together, we have to set off on this life-changing adventure. Our future and our present are being shaped by technology. The quick developments are opening up new markets, sectors, and avenues for innovation. According to Ogunlende, it’s imperative that we give our children the information and abilities they need to succeed in this digital age.

He emphasised Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to making sure everyone has the chance to prosper and realise their full potential and reiterated the State Government’s steadfast commitment to investing in and supporting the development and progress of its youthful population.

He continued, “The Ministry will continue to implement impactful initiatives, independently or in partnership, to ensure our youth are empowered to take their rightful place as partners in development and contribute to the state’s economic growth in order to achieve the Governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.”

LAG-UP is a ground-breaking partnership

Earlier, in her welcome speech, Pharm (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, referred to LAG-UP as a ground-breaking partnership that will open doors for the next generation of Lagos leaders and entrepreneurs.

She emphasised the program’s emphasis on giving participants exposure to real-world projects, mentorship from industry experts, and hands-on training in cutting-edge technologies.

In order to take full advantage of the opportunity, Oke-Osanyintolu asked participants to provide the programme with all the resources necessary for them to gain the critical skills that would enable them to work for themselves and fulfil their share of the State’s economic development and growth.

The offer from GFA Technology

The revolutionary potential of LAG-UP was revealed by industry leader and CEO of GFA Technology, Mr. Debo Omololu. He stated, “The Ministry of Youth and Social Development plays a vital role in improving quality of life.” Youth employment is good for everyone. Each of us should seek to improve the lives of our young people and serve as an advocate for LAG-UP.

He insisted that the LAG-UP programme exemplifies the dedication of the Lagos State Government and its partners to equipping youth for success in the digital era. He also said that participants in the programme will receive the assistance, information, and skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic labour market and make a significant economic contribution to the state.
