As usual, Apple’s annual event was in focus yesterday as the company unveiled one of its most eagerly awaited products—the iPhone 16. However, the response was not very positive, as people complained of little changes in the hardware part of the pack.

Despite the familiar design, Apple’s focus this year was clear: They base their future on another relatively new phenomenon called artificial intelligence (AI).

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said this during the product launch event, “The next generation of iPhone has been developed for Apple Intelligence right from its core, thereby setting the stage for the beginning of this new journey. ” This statement captures Apple’s plan to incorporate AI in every aspect of the new gadgets, which it believes will spur upgrades among iPhone customers given that the growth of iPhone sales has stagnated.

AI at the iPhone 16 Core: Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence, an advanced Artificial Intelligence platform of the firm, is the first in this year’s product offering. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have intelligent features integrated into them due to Artificial intelligence, which aims to enhance users’ experience.

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, has received better integration with AI and enhanced ability to recognise objects captured in the camera. Apple executives defined these AI-driven features as revolutionary for photography, video shoots and daily activities.

Although the design is familiar from past models, the iPhone 16 has a new ‘action button’ at the side of the device that can be programmed to control the camera, report voice memos, or perform any specific activity. The base models are, as usual, made using aluminium and new chips for better processing and will be priced the same as those they are replacing.

The iPhone 16 Pro & 16 Pro Max: A Leap into Pro-level AI

For users seeking more advanced features, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Made from titanium for a more premium feel, these models offer enhanced AI capabilities. One notable upgrade is the AI-driven photo suggestions, which guide framing shots more effectively, giving photographers and creators more control. In addition, AI-powered audio editing tools are aimed at professional-level video production, marking Apple’s continued push to appeal to creative professionals.

The iPhone 16 Pro series also boasts the latest version of Arm’s architecture, a chip designed specifically to accelerate AI applications. This chip, the A18, promises faster processing and better handling of complex AI tasks, ensuring smoother and more responsive performance across apps and features.

AI-powered updates beyond the iPhone 16

Further, while the iPhone was the most significant product to get an AI overhaul, quite a few products had AI features as part of the upgrade. Apple invited the press to offer new information concerning the AirPods and Apple Watch.

It has turned out that the Pro version of the AirPods works as a clinical hearing aid for patients with mild or moderate hearing impairment. At the same time, an AI element lets the AirPods lower volume when a user is involved in a face-to-face dialogue. Another sign that works hands-free convenience based on Apple’s AI developments is a declining call with just a shake of the head.

Apple also addressed the problem of increasing the company’s AI involvement in its ecosystem by using OpenAI’s ChatGPT in Siri. This new creation enables users to type in text, ask questions, and do other things that were not feasible with Siri, making it more powerful.

Some iPhone watchers say the new iPhone 16 models have mostly stayed the same as the older models, downloading minimal design updates. With the iPhone 16, Apple has also added more AI capabilities, hence the improved AI Chip, which supports the intelligent personal assistant Siri; new colour combos—YES, the new iPhone comes in a “bold new palette colours”; and new screens—they came up with new harsh surfaces that can offer protection from daily use and wear.

Ultimately, Apple’s message is clear: AI is the future of iPhones, and the iPhone 16 is the first model that began that trend. With longer-lasting batteries, faster and more powerful chips, and more focus on privacy, Apple’s AI-powered ecosystem is set to revolutionise how users engage with their phones and devices, making it the leader of the next generation of smartphones.
