Launch of Apple Intelligence
Among the most awaited features, Apple Intelligence is Apple’s series of generative AI products that will debut on iPhones, iPads and Macs. Apple Intelligence, first launched at WWDC 2024, will add rewriting, proofreading, and summarising to Siri’s list of features. In addition, users will be able to look forward to cleaning up (similar to Google’s Magic Eraser) at this year’s Photos app in addition to Siri for Creativity (GENemoji, Image Playground as generative art tools, and live transcription of calls and voice memos). The next feature is also ChatGPT integration to make Siri even better at processing intricate questions to answer.
Updated MacBook Pro models
Following the 2023 chip upgrade, the MacBook Pro lineup, including 14-inch and 16-inch models, is expected to receive a boost from the M4 chip generation. This may also include an upgraded entry-level 14-inch Pro, rumoured to come in space black with 16GB RAM and an extra Thunderbolt port, addressing previous user feedback on the M3 model. While MacBook Air updates are likely next year, those interested in MacBook Pro may find upcoming closeout sales of M3 models appealing as Apple prepares to shift focus to its M4-equipped lineup.
Redesigned Mac Mini
The compact Mac Mini could also see a significant design overhaul, with rumours suggesting a more petite build resembling an Apple TV box. This would be its first significant redesign in 14 years. New models are expected to run on M4 and M4 Pro chips, although the rumoured loss of USB-A ports may only please some. Still, the potential for an M4 Pro Mac Mini makes it an enticing option for those seeking robust performance at a relatively accessible price point.
iMac updates and potential USB-C accessories
The popular 24-inch iMac, still sporting the 2021 colourful design, may see an M4 chip update. Apple’s Magic accessories (Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad) may finally transition from Lightning to USB-C. This move aligns with the broader industry shift toward USB-C, especially as the EU’s deadline for Lightning alternatives approaches.

Prospects for high-end Mac Studio and Mac Pro
While updates to the high-end Mac Studio and Mac Pro—which currently run on M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips—are not expected imminently, the M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips are anticipated in future updates. Given Apple’s staggered release pattern, these professional-grade devices might receive upgrades in 2025 rather than in the coming week.
