MTN Group has announced the extension of Ralph Mupita’s tenure as Group CEO until August 31, 2030, surpassing the previous contract end date of September 30, 2025.

The renewal of Mupita’s contract was approved by MTN’s board of directors, marking a critical decision to ensure continuity in leadership during a period of global and regional challenges.

“The extension of Ralph’s tenure will provide important continuity during a period of significant global and regional uncertainty,” said MTN Group chair Mcebisi Jonas. “It will allow MTN to effectively navigate the complex geopolitical dynamics, market volatility, and macroeconomic challenges affecting the business.”

“Additionally, it will ensure that the company remains focused on its strategic priorities and continues to deliver on its commitments to shareholders and broader shareholders,” he added.

MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita’s portfolio

Mupita, who has served as MTN’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since 2017, succeeded Rob Shuter as CEO in September 2020. His expertise in finance, M&A, and emerging markets has been pivotal in MTN’s strategic direction and financial success.

“Ralph has served as the MTN Group CFO since April 2017 and has played a critical role in the development and execution of the group’s strategy, capital allocation processes, financial performance as well as in the resolution of a number of complex regulatory matters,” MTN said.

“Ralph’s experience as the Group CFO, strong knowledge of our businesses and markets, as well as a successful background in financial services, M&A and emerging markets, place him in an excellent position to lead the growth and sustainability of the business going forward,” added Jonas.
