OpenAI’s popular services, ChatGPT and Sora, experienced significant outages for the second time this month.
The disruption began at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday with users reporting difficulty in accessing the chatbot and video generator.
Many encountered error messages, highlighting the frustration of relying on these AI tools for daily tasks.

The cause of the outage
OpenAI attributed the outage to problems with an “upstream provider,” stating they were actively working on a fix.
This incident follows a previous outage in December, which lasted approximately six hours due to a malfunctioning telemetry service.
Users expressed dissatisfaction on social media, sharing screenshots of error messages and login issues.
One user noted, “It’s frustrating when you depend on these tools for work, and they suddenly go down.”

The outage affected ChatGPT, OpenAI’s API, and Sora. Reports indicated that over 15,000 users faced difficulties during the downtime.
Despite the disruptions, services like Perplexity and Apple’s Siri integration remained operational.
