The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is launching a new whistleblower platform on January 1, 2025, as part of its initiative to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability within the country’s financial sector.

The platform will provide a safe space for individuals to report unethical behavior, legal violations, and professional misconduct, with a focus on protecting whistleblowers’ identities.

The CBN stressed in its December update that the platform is intended to enable anyone to report any kind of misbehaviour without worrying about intimidation or reprisal.

“In furtherance of management’s commitment to promoting an organisation with high ethical standards, honesty, and integrity, the Central Bank of Nigeria is launching a new externally hosted platform to manage whistleblowing,” the statement read.

Employees, consultants, executives, vendors, and other stakeholders will be able to report instances of unethical behaviour, legal infractions, or personal and professional misbehaviour through the site.

CBN’s commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards both inside the company and throughout the Nigerian financial sector is demonstrated by this endeavour.

“All reports made via this channel will be investigated promptly and treated with utmost confidentiality and professionalism, ensuring that every concern is addressed while protecting the whistleblower,” the bank stated.

The program seeks to protect whistleblowers’ identities and rights while fostering a safe and encouraging atmosphere for them. In due time, more information regarding the platform’s functionality will be released.

Whistleblowers were assured of the CBN’s commitment that all submissions would be handled carefully and that they would receive the assistance they needed to maintain their privacy.

The platform, which is expected to begin in early 2025, highlights the CBN’s vision of preserving moral principles, encouraging responsibility, and defending the integrity of Nigeria’s financial industry. It is a daring step in building a systemic culture of trust and operational excellence.
