Ghana-based digital streaming platform Aftown Music, which promotes and digitises African music, on Monday announced its launch in Francophone Africa, starting with Cameroon.

The expansion is a collaborative effort with Cliq Empire, a creative agency and entertainment hub, to guarantee a smooth entry into the Cameroonian market.

“We are thrilled to be working with Aftown Music to launch their business in Cameroon. This partnership is a game changer for Cameroonian artists. It is high time that local creators have a platform that prioritises their growth and ensures they are fairly compensated for their work,” said Prince Michael Enobi, Director of Cliq Empire.

This move provides Cameroonian musicians with a powerful tool to distribute their music, engage with a global audience, and earn royalties directly from their streams, ensuring more equitable opportunities for local creators.

Aftown’s significant milestone

According to Play Store data, the platform’s mobile application has been downloaded over 5,000 times on iOS and Android, since its launch in Ghana in 2016.

After creating an account and accessing it, the user can stream music from a variety of artists from his PC or smartphone. While there are ads during the listening experience in the free version, you may avoid them with a premium subscription.

In addition to music streaming, Aftown Music is a uniquely African platform that offers podcasts, videos, and local cultural content such as Amapiano, Gospel, Highlife, Afrobeats, Bikutsi, and Makossa.

Aftown ensures a direct relationship between artists and their fans as well as a more equitable revenue-sharing model than major international platforms.

The platform incorporates streaming along with features like offline mode and a rewards system.

Prospects for Cameroon’s streaming industry

In 2025, the Cameroonian music streaming business is anticipated to bring in $10.09 million, according to Statista.

By offering a local substitute that guarantees artists receive just pay, Aftown Music hopes to play a significant part in this expansion.

Aftown’s larger push into Francophone Africa begins with Cameroon. The platform intends to spread out gradually in additional nations in the region after establishing itself successfully in English-speaking markets.
