The Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, received a courtesy call at the NCA Tower from a three-member delegation from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which was led by its Director General, Prof. Amin Alhassan.
According to the press release dated February 27, 2025, the purpose of the visit was to address industry-related issues and promote closer cooperation between the two institutions, especially in enhancing consumer awareness and public education about the rights and obligations of telecom and broadcasting service consumers in Ghana.
The GBC delegation used the meeting to formally congratulate Rev. Ing. Fianko on his appointment and discuss potential areas of shared interest in the broadcasting and telecommunications industries.
Collaboration to enhance public awareness of telecom and broadcasting services in Ghana
During the talks, the NCA reiterated its dedication to collaborating closely with GBC to take advantage of the broadcaster’s enormous national reach.
This partnership is anticipated to improve consumer awareness initiatives, guaranteeing that Ghanaians are knowledgeable about digital migration, spectrum management, regulatory laws, and the quality of service requirements in the communications sector.
The engagement also underlined the necessity of regulatory and media organisations working together to promote successful public involvement and policy communication.

The talks also included strategies for reducing transmission interference and efficiently managing frequency allocation.

Both agencies realised that effective spectrum management was necessary to reduce signal disruptions, guarantee regulatory compliance, and enhance service quality for customers nationwide as the demand for broadcasting and telecommunications services increased.
Prof. Alhassan was joined by Ing. Augustus Yawson, Deputy Director General, and Ing. Eric Odonkor, Acting Director for Engineering, who reaffirmed GBC’s willingness to assist the NCA in important projects pertaining to spectrum management, digital transformation, and media policy advocacy.
The visit emphasised the increasing necessity of interagency cooperation in tackling issues in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors and guaranteeing an equitable, open, and customer-focused regulatory environment.
