In its 2024 financial year report, the number of MTN’s mobile subscribers increased by 6.5 percent YoY growth to 28.5 million subscribers while there was a 13.7 percent increase in its active data subscribers to 17.5 million.
Furthermore, there was a 12.8 percent rise in active Mobile Money (MoMo) users to 17.2 million.
This growth underlines MTN’s continued investment in creating a robust network and the newest technology to guarantee that its customers stay connected.
MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett stated, “As we reflect on our journey through 2024, I am pleased to report that our commitment to excellence in commercial execution and service delivery has yielded remarkable results.
He continued, “By prioritising customer experience and service integration, we have successfully enhanced service delivery across all MTN platforms.”
“Each improvement we made this year — whether it was in upgrading our network infrastructure, implementing innovative solutions, or providing responsive and engaging customer service — has not only strengthened our existing relationships but also attracted 1.7 million new subscribers to the Y’ello family, all seeking reliable connectivity and fintech solutions,” he emphasised.

Improved digital services aid active subscribers’ growth
Strong growth was seen in digital revenue, which increased by 66.1 percent year over year to GHS228.2 million.
An 11.7 percent YoY increase in active subscribers and higher utilisation of its services and products, including video, gaming, and ringback tones, helped to support this result.
The expansion of the user base was aided by improved digital offerings and customer experience.
Digital’s share of overall service revenue rose to 1.3 percent in 2024 as against 1.0 percent in 2023.
MTN Ghana paid GHS8.6 billion in taxes
Through tax payments, MTN Ghana continues to support the government’s development efforts in 2024 by boosting the nation’s economy.
Along with GHS468.4 million in fees, levies, and other payments to government organisations, MTN paid GHS8.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes throughout the year. These payouts amounted to 50.3 percent of MTN’s annual income.
The period’s direct tax charge rose to GHS2.6 billion, a YoY rise of 59.7 percent. As a result, profit after tax rose to GHS5.0 billion, a 26.3 percent YoY rise.
