Stakeholders from across Africa’s technology and financial sectors gathered in Accra, Ghana, for the Accra Synergy Summit, where discussions centred on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain in driving digital transformation and financial inclusion. The summit, hosted by TD Africa, provided a platform for policymakers, tech industry leaders, and global technology giants to explore how emerging technologies can reshape the continent’s economic landscape.
Coordinating Managing Director of TD Africa, Chioma Chimere, described the attendees as key players in Ghana’s technological evolution, emphasising the power of partnerships in shaping digital transformation. She noted that collaboration between industry giants, policymakers, and businesses is essential to creating technology-driven solutions that empower individuals and communities.

AI and blockchain are “not just buzzwords”
During a panel session, Emmanuel Morka, Chief Information Officer of Access Bank West Africa Region, highlighted how AI and blockchain could upgrade financial services by expanding access to underserved communities. He explained that these technologies have the potential to bridge Africa’s financial access gap by providing inclusive solutions that empower people regardless of their socio-economic status.
“AI and blockchain are not just buzzwords; they are game-changers that can redefine financial inclusion in Africa,” Morka said. “The challenge is to develop systems that are accessible to everyone, ensuring that financial tools drive economic growth and uplift communities.”
Addressing Africa’s financial access gap at the Accra Synergy Summit
The conversation on financial inclusion comes as Africa continues to grapple with a significant banking gap. According to the World Bank, over 350 million adults on the continent remain unbanked, making it crucial to leverage AI-driven financial solutions and blockchain technology to promote economic inclusion.
The summit featured high-profile industry figures, including Dr Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Group; Dr. Bryan Achempong, former Minister of Agriculture in Ghana; and Chimaraoke Nwogwugwu, Chief Operating Officer of M-Technology Solutions Limited.
Morka praised TD Africa for facilitating meaningful discussions on the future of digital transformation in Africa, calling the summit a crucial platform for stakeholders to engage in conversations that will shape the continent’s technology-driven future.
