Another African leads in Tech as Google appoints her first Senior Vice President.
The CEO of Alphabets (Google’s parent company ) Sundar Pichai, announced the appointment of Zimbabwean James Manyika as the company’s first Senior Vice President of Technology and Society.
About James Manyika
James Manyika will be working directly with him on the impact of technology on society and environment.
James Manyika spent decades working at the intersection of technology and society and has advised a number of businesses, academic institutions, and governments along the way.
He got his first degree—in Electrical Engineering—from the University of Zimbabwe, and then went on to get two Masters’s degrees and a PHD from the University of Oxford.
With a glowing record of 28 years of service at McKinsey, James Manyika became Senior Partner and Chairman of the McKinsey Global Institute, (a research institute that helps leaders in the commercial, public, and social sectors develop deep understanding of the evolution of the global economy).
Manyika served as Vice Chair of the Global Development Council at the White House under President Obama’s administration.
He served on the Digital Economy Board and the National Innovation Board.
He also serves on the boards of research institutes at Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Stanford and other top-tier schools. Manyika has advised the chief executives and founders of many of the world’s leading tech companies on strategy and growth, product, and business innovation.
James Manyika’s research into Artificial Intelligence, the future of work, sustainability and robotics automation is sure to make him an indelible asset to Google.
