Percy Chinyama, National Coordinator of the Electronic Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute), has urged the public, stakeholders, and civil service to embrace digital transformation to the fullest extent possible.

Speaking at the Office of the Auditor General’s new Website, ICT Strategy, and Policy inauguration in Lusaka on Friday, Mr. Chinyama stressed the need for Zambia to keep up with international digital trends.

“The world is rapidly going digital, and Zambia must not be left behind. All sectors of the economy must align with this new digital direction,” he stated.

Introduction of new website, ICT strategy and policy

A new website, ICT strategy, and policy have all been introduced as part of the Office of the Auditor General’s Digital Transformation activities, for which Mr. Chinyama has expressed gratitude.

He emphasised that data-driven governance is crucial for planning, budgeting, and auditing and that ICT integration improves the public service’s efficiency, transparency, and confidence.

“The Office of the Auditor General’s efforts align with global best practices, ensuring wider stakeholder and citizen participation in governance,” he added.

Chinyama also emphasised the necessity of implementing change management in the civil service, beginning with human resource development, reengineering government procedures, and embracing digital technology.

Historic milestone

Stella Nyonda, the Acting Deputy Auditor General for Corporate Services, called the launch a historic turning point for the organisation.

“Harnessing digital technologies is crucial for enhancing efficiency, accountability, and transparency in public bodies worldwide,” she said.

She pointed out that in order to handle the complexity of contemporary governance and the rising demands for accountability, audit institutions in Africa and beyond are implementing digital tools.

More than just technology advancements

Emmanuel Tembo, the Deputy Auditor General (Audits), had earlier reaffirmed that the digital initiatives represent more than just technology advancements; they also serve as a reminder of the institution’s dedication to excellence in public auditing.

“This achievement results from strategic planning, collaboration, and alignment with Zambia’s National ICT Policy and other frameworks,” he said.
