African tech behemoth Cassava Technologies announced on Monday that it has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sand Technologies, a prominent worldwide enterprise AI solutions provider and a major participant in Africa’s developing artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.

The strategic alliance, which was revealed at the Global AI Summit on Africa in Kigali, Rwanda, is to improve the distribution of GPU-as-a-service (GPUaas) and AI solutions throughout the African continent, hence increasing the accessibility of AI solutions for African enterprises.

“As more businesses across Africa seek to harness the potential of AI, the demand for powerful GPU processing capabilities is increasing. By providing Sand Technologies with access to Cassava’s GPU solutions, we are not only enabling them to develop advanced AI solutions for their clients across industries but also expanding Cassava’s own footprint into these industries,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies.

He added, “Positioning ourselves as a provider of GPU-as-a-service means we can offer African businesses the cost-effective, scalable processing solutions they need to compete in an AI-driven world,”

Sand to leverage Cassava’s NVIDIA-powered GPU capabilities to deploy AI solutions

Enterprise AI solutions provider Sand Technologies serves the energy, water, insurance, healthcare, and telecommunications sectors in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Sand Technologies will employ Cassava’s cutting-edge NVIDIA-powered GPU capabilities to create and implement AI solutions globally, in keeping with Cassava’s mission to support AI innovation and development on the African continent.

The two businesses will explore pilot use cases and work together to co-create and distribute AI-powered products that make use of GPUs, demonstrating their shared commitment to Africa’s digital future.

“Sand Technologies is proud to partner with Cassava in what is set to be a pivotal moment for the advancement of industry-related AI solutions on the African continent. It will enable us to bring the best of Cassava’s GPU processing power to our clients and position us to support their digital transformation journeys,” said Fred Swaniker, Founder and CEO of Sand Technologies.

Cassava’s commitment to provide world-class digital solutions

Cassava’s strategic alliance with Sand Technologies reaffirms its dedication to offering top-notch digital solutions and promoting ethical AI usage, innovation, and expansion in Africa.

Cassava recently announced its intentions to construct Africa’s first AI factory in order to provide African companies, governments, and researchers with access to state-of-the-art AI processing capability and enable them to create more intelligent AI products, optimise processes, and maintain their competitiveness.

In a related development, Cassava Technologies, and Zindi, a data scientist professional network, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week to expedite the adoption of graphics processing unit (GPU)-as-a-service (GPUaaS) and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions throughout Africa.

The collaboration intends to equip African startups and developers with the resources and infrastructure required to create scalable AI solutions.

Zindi will use Cassava’s GPUaaS infrastructure to improve the development of its AI models through this partnership, and both companies will look into ways to cross-integrate platforms and increase access to talent, data, and innovation.
