Google officially launched the NotebookLM app for Android and iOS on Monday, before Google I/O 2025. Previously available only on desktop since its debut in 2023, this AI-powered note-taking and research tool is now available on mobile, offering a more convenient way to manage complex information on the go.

NotebookLM brings AI-powered research to your mobile device

NotebookLM lets users upload PDFs, website links, YouTube videos, or text directly into notebooks. Google’s Gemini AI then analyzes the content, offering smart summaries and answers to user questions about the material. The app supports background playback and offline listening, making absorbing information anywhere easy.

One of its most notable features is its AI-generated podcasts, Audio Overviews, which transform your notes into conversational audio summaries. These summaries sound like natural discussions rather than robotic readings, helping users engage with fresh content. Users can listen to these podcasts and ask follow-up questions, whether commuting or multitasking.

The app also adapts automatically to your device’s light or dark mode, allowing you to easily save content from browsers or other apps through the share function. This makes capturing and organizing research seamless, whether you’re a student, professional, or casual learner.

How NotebookLM turns Notes into engaging podcasts

Creating podcasts from your notes is straightforward. After uploading your content, NotebookLM offers a “Deep Dive Conversation” feature where you can generate a podcast between two AI hosts discussing your material. This feature, currently available in English, lets you customize topics and focus areas to tailor the podcast to your needs.

This capability gained attention in late 2024 when Spotify integrated NotebookLM to produce personalized podcast recaps for millions of users, showcasing the tool’s potential for content creators. Users have even experimented with humorous scenarios, demonstrating the flexibility of NotebookLM’s AI-driven dialogues.

Since its inception as Project Tailwind in 2023, NotebookLM has steadily evolved into a trusted AI assistant that grounds its responses in user-provided sources, reducing errors common in other AI tools. The mobile app release signals Google’s commitment to making this research assistant widely accessible and practical.

Google’s NotebookLM app is now available on the Play Store for Android 10 and above, with iOS 17 and later versions supported. The launch coincides with Google I/O 2025, where more AI innovations powered by Gemini are expected to be revealed. This app is poised to change how we study, research, and even create podcasts from our notes.
