On Wednesday, EMOSIM officially launched Nigeria’s first outbound travel eSIM in Lagos, a breakthrough that promises to transform how Nigerians stay connected while traveling abroad. This pioneering service enables users to access voice, SMS, and data in over 190 countries without needing physical SIM cards or expensive roaming fees.

Breaking Barriers: How EMOSIM simplifies global travel connectivity

EMOSIM’s travel eSIM eliminates common travel frustrations such as long queues for local SIM cards, complicated verification processes, and surprise roaming charges. Instead of swapping SIM cards at every destination, travelers can activate the eSIM instantly by scanning a QR code or downloading an app on compatible devices.

Founder and Chairman Jimmy Eboma emphasized the revolutionary nature of the product: “With one tap, Nigerians and beyond now activate instant access to the world. No swaps. No shocks. No borders.” This innovation reflects Nigerian ingenuity and addresses a global challenge with a homegrown solution.

The service is supported by a global network infrastructure in partnership with Tata Communications, enabling seamless connectivity across more than 600 networks worldwide, including key travel destinations like the UK, US, and Canada.

At the launch event, telecom and regulatory leaders praised EMOSIM’s role in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy. Former Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) head Professor Umar Danbatta highlighted how EMOSIM leverages Nigeria’s strategic spectrum management and regulatory policies to deliver accessible and affordable telecom services.

Business leaders also underscored the broader economic impact. The CEO of Wakanow, a leading travel company, discussed potential partnerships to ease foreign exchange pressures for travelers using EMOSIM, signaling growing international confidence in Nigeria’s telecom innovation.

EMOSIM’s CEO Karn Gulati noted that the MVNO license framework was introduced to reach underserved markets and ensure no Nigerian is left behind in the smartphone revolution. He described the travel segment as “incredibly promising,” with over 1.2 million Nigerians traveling abroad annually, making the travel eSIM an ideal launch product.
