On Monday, SISCOM Tech announced a significant expansion of its digital infrastructure by launching a new data-centre cluster in Nairobi, Kenya. This move immediately triples SISCOM’s data storage and processing capacity, positioning the company as a key player in Africa’s growing digital economy.

New data-centre cluster boosts capacity and reliability

SISCOM Tech’s new data-center cluster is hosted within IX Africa’s Tier III-designed facility in Nairobi. The facility boasts a 4.5 MW power capacity and 780 racks, offering carrier-neutral connectivity that supports multiple network providers. This design ensures high availability and reliability for SISCOM’s clients, which include enterprises, startups, and public institutions.

The Tier III certification means the data centre can sustain operations even during maintenance or unexpected failures, an essential feature for businesses relying on continuous digital services. Derrick Gakuu, a key figure at SISCOM, emphasised the importance of building “the backbone of Africa’s future” by investing in scalable and secure cloud infrastructure.

Strategic importance for Kenya’s digital growth

Kenya is rapidly becoming a hub for data centers in Africa, with Nairobi hosting over 90 percent of the country’s data centre power capacity. The existing capacity in Kenya is nearly 20 MW, with an expected addition of 25 MW by the end of 2025. SISCOM’s expansion aligns with this growth trend, contributing to the country’s ambition to support its booming digital economy.

Local investment in digital infrastructure is a priority, as highlighted in recent discussions with Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA). SISCOM advocates mobilizing local capital to build sustainable digital assets, reduce reliance on foreign funding, and lower operational costs for Kenyan businesses.

Empowering digital services across sectors

SISCOM Tech’s infrastructure supports critical sectors such as financial services, healthcare, and startups. By collaborating with AWS Premier Partner Silicon Overdrive, SISCOM offers cloud migration, hybrid cloud solutions, and credits to ease the transition to cloud-native environments. This partnership enables businesses to innovate faster and more cost-effectively.

SISCOM’s Head of Communications, Sharon Maina, highlighted how the company’s platforms help professional services like clinics and beauty centres increase sales, manage loyalty programs, and generate actionable growth reports. This practical digital transformation is driving real business results across Kenya.

SISCOM Tech’s launch of a data-center cluster marks a pivotal step in strengthening Kenya’s digital infrastructure, supporting the country’s position as a leading digital economy in Africa.
