On Tuesday, the DFINITY Foundation and ICP HUBS Network announced the World Computer Hacker League 2025 (WCHL25), a four-month hackathon designed to empower developers to build production-ready applications on the Internet Computer blockchain. This event runs from July through October 2025 and offers developers extensive resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities to accelerate their projects from concept to deployment.

Extended timeline enables real product development

Unlike typical hackathons that last a few days or weeks, WCHL25 gives teams four months to focus intensely on their projects. This longer timeline allows participants to develop, test, and deploy fully functional applications rather than just prototypes. Emilio Canessa, Director of Global Adoption at DFINITY Foundation, emphasized, “WCHL gives developers what they’ve been asking for: real time to focus and build, real support from experts, and real pathways to growth”. The hackathon structure includes four stages: Qualification, National, Regional, and a Global Grand Finale, where top teams compete for prizes and recognition.

Comprehensive support and global reach

Participants will benefit from weekly mentorship sessions, workshops, and office hours led by technical experts and experienced builders. The event also leverages the ICP HUBS Network, which spans North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, providing developers access to a broad global community and potential investors. The Internet Computer platform offers a decentralized web3 cloud environment where code runs directly on blockchain without centralized servers, delivering fast, secure, and cost-efficient computation.

Registration for the hackathon opened on Tuesday via DoraHacks, inviting developers worldwide to join and contribute to the evolution of decentralized internet technology.

With innovative contract capabilities and scalable infrastructure, ICP aims to create a fully decentralized internet, offering users security, speed, and efficiency worldwide.

DFINITY is a Swiss-based non-profit organization founded in 2016 by Dominic Williams. It created the Internet Computer, a blockchain network that aims to decentralize the internet. DFINITY aims to provide an open platform for developers to build websites, apps, and services without centralized servers. By leveraging advanced cryptography and blockchain technology, DFINITY enables a new, decentralized version of the internet that’s secure, scalable, and transparent.
