E-commerce giant Jumia has named Temidayo Ojo as CEO of its Nigerian operations, tapping a homegrown executive with deep market knowledge to lead its largest and most competitive market.

The move marks a strategic shift by Jumia to strengthen local leadership across its African markets. Ojo, a Nigerian national who joined the company in 2020, previously served as Chief Commercial Officer in Nigeria and most recently led Jumia Ghana, where he oversaw a period of record-breaking growth.

With Jumia Nigeria being its largest and arguably most competitive market, the move signals a deep commitment to empowering local leaders, enabling homegrown innovation, and accelerating the company’s momentum.

The decision to elevate Temidayo Ojo to CEO of Jumia Nigeria demonstrates Jumia’s ongoing strategy of nurturing local leadership. Ojo, who joined Jumia in 2020 as Head of Planning and Performance, rapidly rose. He was later appointed as Chief Commercial Officer in Nigeria and became the driving force behind record-breaking expansion as CEO of Jumia Ghana.

Let’s pause for a second. Ojo isn’t just another executive. Growing up in Nigeria, he understands the pulse of the nation’s e-commerce audience. He declared, “I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the leadership of Jumia Nigeria, a market that holds immense potential and strategic importance. As someone who grew up in Nigeria and understands the unique needs of our customers and partners, this role is deeply personal to me”.

Francis Dufay, Jumia Group’s CEO, praised the move, saying, “His energy, values, and business acumen make him the right person to lead Jumia Nigeria into its next chapter.” Such confidence is rare in the fiercely competitive e-commerce world.

CEO Temidayo Ojo’s impact and vision for Jumia Nigeria

The strategic leadership shift brings with it fresh energy and purpose. Under Temidayo Ojo’s guidance in Ghana, Jumia achieved record-breaking growth, fostered a vibrant team culture, and established a platform for sustained progress. Jumia’s decision to promote from within, especially someone with deep connections to West Africa, sets the company apart from its rivals.

Ojo’s educational background speaks volumes about his capabilities. He holds an MBA in Finance, Strategy, and Consulting from IESE Business School, Spain, and a bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos. Jumia is clear: this is no routine appointment. It’s a move to build trust and drive customer-centric innovation in a rapidly evolving market.

The outgoing CEO, Sunil Natraj, left after guiding the company through challenging reforms and restoring consumer confidence. Temidayo Ojo has promised to deepen customer trust, stating, “I look forward to working with our amazing team to drive greater impact, deepen customer trust, and take our business to new heights”.

Group CEO Francis Dufay offered one final endorsement: “Temidayo has demonstrated exceptional leadership and business acumen in Ghana. His energy and values make him the ideal person to guide Jumia Nigeria through its next chapter of growth and innovation”.

The leadership shift continues with Seleem Musibau becoming CEO of Jumia Ghana, showing Jumia’s faith in continuity and local leadership. The announcement marks a pivotal point for Jumia Nigeria, a strategic change that will keep the country’s e-commerce scene buzzing.
