TikTok announced on Tuesday that users can now save songs playing in videos directly to YouTube Music.

This addition expands TikTok’s “Add to Music App” feature, letting fans easily collect tracks they discover while scrolling through videos.

The update enhances user experience by bringing YouTube Music alongside other primary streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

TikTok’s updated guidelines introduce subtle policy shifts for creators

Initially rolled out in late 2023 for Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music in the US and UK, this feature took a global leap in early 2024 by supporting more countries and adding Deezer and SoundCloud options. Today’s update puts YouTube Music front and center as a new user choice.

It works as follows: users tap the “Add Song” button next to the track name below a TikTok video, then select YouTube Music.

The song is instantly saved to a dedicated TikTok Songs playlist on their YouTube Music account. After the first use, YouTube Music becomes the default save location, though users can switch services anytime via TikTok’s settings.

Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, highlighted the ongoing impact: “Add to Music App continues to deliver real results for the music industry, with hundreds of millions of track saves translating into billions of streams.”

She added that partnering with YouTube Music helps expand the reach of artists worldwide and offers fans a smooth way to engage with music found on TikTok.

This integration marks a significant upgrade to TikTok’s music discovery tools, further connecting short video trends with streaming consumption, benefiting artists and listeners alike.
