Edo State has partnered with Google to teach 800 students in cutting-edge technology disciplines for the global digital economy.
Edo State Commissioner for Education Dr. Paddy Iyamu introduced this program to teach pupils data science, AI, machine learning, and other sophisticated digital skills.
The SHINE Agenda, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, prepares Edo youth for future jobs.
Advanced tech skills training opens doors worldwide
Through the new program, the Advanced Job Ready Tech Program, students will be immersed in high-demand fields such as computer vision, natural language processing, geographic data science, data analysis, data visualisation, data architecture, and advanced machine learning techniques.
Dr. Iyamu emphasised, “It is to give Edo students opportunities in the global workspace… to make the students be at par with their colleagues globally.” This program guarantees Edo youth access to industries influencing global job trends.
Access and support for all Edo students
The program’s design strongly emphasises inclusivity. Participation is open to Edo students inside and outside the state, and those without access to a computer can use free laptops with dependable internet to enhance their education at the Edo Digital Hub in Benin City.
Dr. Iyamu explained, “There will be a career fair, internship, job placement, and skills gained would lead to direct income, employment, and career advancement.”
Moreover, students can earn dollars while working, opening opportunities beyond Nigerian borders.
Tapping into global digital growth
The World Economic Forum predicts that the digital industry will eventually create over 37 million new jobs. By emphasising pertinent digital skills, Edo State is putting its young people in a position to gain from this expansion.
While other Nigerian governments, such as Abia and Sokoto, are also expanding their digital skills training initiatives, Edo’s collaboration with Google immediately raises the calibre and legitimacy of its instruction.
Experts in the field hail this action as a calculated step to introduce Edo’s youthful talent to the world’s digital platform.
This program serves as a doorway to technology-related jobs worldwide and goes beyond schooling. With Google’s support, Future Edo tech workers will be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities presented by digital transformation.
