MEST Africa’s 2025 Africa Challenge opened doors for innovative digital finance firms, startling African fintech founders on the verge of rapid growth.
The stakes are high this year as fintech innovation dominates. The winner will receive $50,000 in equity funding and the ability to pilot with strategic partners, an opportunity described by Ashwin Ravichandran, Portfolio Advisor and MAC Lead at MEST Africa, as “where Africa’s boldest ideas find the opportunity to scale.”
The MEST Africa Challenge 2025 application period began on July 30 and ends on September 26, 2025. Fintech companies that work in Botswana, Uganda, Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa, and Ghana. Absa’s top markets are the only ones that can apply.
Companies must be under three years old, make at least $5,000 a month in recurring income, and have raised no more than $1 million to be eligible. Each team must have at least two co-founders, and the pitch must be in English. Registration in Delaware is preferred but not needed.

Startups receive specialised mentorship, access to key networks, co-working locations, marketing tools, and strategic partners willing to test promising solutions in addition to the significant cash award. Since 2008, Ghana-based MEST Africa has trained over 2,000 entrepreneurs and invested in over 90 African firms.
This year’s dedicated fintech focus targets businesses developing smart credit, alternative lending, digital payments, value-chain finance, trust tech, and insurtech solutions for Africa’s expanding financial industry.
