Hours after the nationwide exercise began on Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had received over 26,000 visits to its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal.

The CVR platform, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, had 26,255 hits as of 12:35 p.m. today.

According to the commission via its official X handle on Monday, “Hits on the Continuous Voter Registration portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) climbed to 26,255 as at 12.35 pm today, Monday 18th August 2025. Register Now.”

Announcing the launch, INEC said, “In-person registration will take place at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide, to ensure easy access for prospective voters.”

Nationwide physical registration to commence August 25, 2025

Although the online pre-registration is currently open, the nationwide physical registration phase is scheduled to start on August 25, 2025.

According to the commission, Nigerians who have turned 18 but have never registered can use the CVR. They can also use it to replace lost or damaged PVCs, update their voter information, or move their voting location.

“The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards, and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs,” INEC said.

Caution against multiple registrations

Additionally, INEC cautioned citizens against multiple registrations, reminding them that infractions may result in legal repercussions.

INEC urged citizens to fully utilise the opportunity and encouraged broad participation.

INEC encouraged Nigerians to contact it through its dedicated call centre at 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or by using the short code 4632 if they had any questions or needed assistance.

The commission further stated that it is still dedicated to strengthening democracy and making sure that all eligible voters have the chance to register before the next elections, reaffirming its commitment to democratic inclusion.

Political party registration goes digital

Techpression reported in July that Nigeria’s electoral commission has replaced its manual political party registration process with a digital portal under its new PFRAS system, as it braces for a packed 2025–2026 election cycle that includes five major polls and a surge in party formation efforts.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) launched a political party registration portal, a module of its Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS) at one of its weekly meetings.

This is in contrast to the manual registration process employed in the past.

INEC noted that the innovation will improve the registration procedure for political parties.
