The Strategic Vision for Nigerian Teachers and the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Digital Portal were unveiled by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who called the project a turning point in the transformation of education and repositioning of the profession.
In a statement released on Monday, he emphasised that the portal stands for more than just technology; it is a dedication to honouring, empowering, and assisting educators nationwide.
In addition to tracking professional development and streamlining registration, licensing, and renewals, the platform will act as a national database for teacher performance and policymaking.
Teachers can now easily register, update records, process licenses, check results, and print certificates from anywhere in Nigeria by visiting the TRCN portal at trcn.gov.ng.
Strategic Vision
Additionally, Dr. Alausa unveiled a Strategic Vision based on five pillars: global alignment, accountability, equity, professionalisation, and digitisation.
To protect classrooms and uphold integrity, he instituted a framework requiring all public and private school teachers to complete background checks and ethics training.
He underlined that the reform is protective rather than punitive to restore the profession’s dignity and guarantee high-quality education.
He praised educators as “the true architects of the future” and called on the public sector, private sector, and local communities to collaborate in creating a transformative and globally competitive teaching profession.
TRCN Digital Portal redefines teacher professionalism
According to Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, the TRCN Digital Portal is a step that redefines teacher professionalism in the twenty-first century.
She clarified that it will offer a transparent database of certified teachers, easy registration, licensing, and real-time professional development.
She underlined that digitalisation is crucial for national progress and global competitiveness, connecting the invention to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Prof. Ahmad praised TRCN’s leadership for their resilience and foresight, pointing out that Nigeria empowers future generations by providing teachers with digital tools.
TRCN Digital Portal to address license and certificate delays
Dr. Ronke Soyombo, Registrar of TRCN, emphasised that the project is a component of her 100-day action plan to digitise operations. She said the system will enhance data management and address license and certificate delays and grievances.
The trcn.gov.ng platform allows teachers to register, view results, and print certificates from the comfort of their homes. She continued that a service level agreement will guarantee that the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) results are made public within a week.
As she also announced, the PQE curriculum will now consist of five core areas—foundational mathematics, literacy, digital literacy, safeguarding, and pedagogy—instead of 23 subjects.
By October, TRCN will introduce a lesson plan generator driven by artificial intelligence to offer contextualised teaching resources. She said that by taking these steps, Nigeria will become in line with international standards, strengthen child protection, and increase the number of certified teachers by 50 per cent.
Significant milestone in transforming Nigeria’s education system
International partners also promised assistance. The British Council’s Director of Programs, Chikodi Onyemerela, called the portal a “significant milestone in transforming Nigeria’s education system.”
The British High Commission’s Senior Education Adviser, Ian Attfield, praised the initiative for improving data management, bolstering transparency, and increasing teacher motivation and output.
The CEO of TeckPlus Digital Solutions, Dr. Patrick Adeleye, described the 20-month process of developing the portal with TRCN from the private sector. He clarified that learning outcomes were harmed by Nigeria’s prior lack of reliable data on the number, credentials, and certification of teachers.
According to him, the portal, which was created as part of the Ministry’s Education Management Information System (EMIS) agenda, will remove obstacles and guarantee prompt access to licensing and certification.
Digital inclusion
In his remarks on inclusivity, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Isa, called for screen readers, sign language support, and digital Braille in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasising the importance of making digital platforms accessible to people with disabilities.
The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates its dedication to assisting Nigerian educators, the backbone of the country’s progress. The Ministry guarantees that by embracing innovation, bolstering professional standards, and emphasising inclusivity, this initiative ushers in a revolutionary era where educators are respected, empowered, and prepared to influence Nigeria’s educational landscape.
