Paratus Group, a provider of high-quality network services and pan-African telecommunications, announced on Wednesday the first private mobile network using LTE and 5G technologies in Namibia.

The launch, which coincides with Paratus Namibia’s 20th anniversary of operations and challenges the country’s dominant state-owned corporations, marks the beginning of a daring new era in digital transformation and mobile connectivity, as well as 20 years of investment in the nation.

Paratus Group’s significant milestone

The Paratus Group’s power base is in Namibia. The company’s extensive fibre network and satellite infrastructure, including the landing of the Equiano subsea cable, the development of Tier 3 by design data centres, complete network services, and new mobile and LEO satellite services, were established by its in-country expertise, which also supports innovation and expansion for the larger pan-African Paratus group.

Since 2018, Paratus has made an unparalleled investment of N$1.417 billion in network infrastructure. Last year, a third of the N$600 million invested in the new Namibian mobile network went toward creating a strong digital technology stack that unifies all of Paratus’ services into a single customer-focused platform.

The new Paratus mobile network, created with Nokia as its mobile network partner and Cerillion as its digital technology partner, eliminates legacy platforms to offer a smooth and entirely digital customer experience.

Paratus Group is solidifying its position as a long-term investor in Africa’s digital future by launching a full-service network that will provide dependable and reasonably priced connectivity to communities and businesses throughout the continent.

Paratus Group’s CEO expresses optimism

CEO for the Paratus Group, Schalk Erasmus, says: “Connectivity is the backbone of economic growth. Launching Namibia’s first private mobile network is a deliberate step in our mission to transform Africa’s digital landscape. By offering transparent, affordable services, we remove barriers and empower more people to participate in the digital economy. This is also integral to the overriding Paratus passion, purpose and people ethos we embrace in our culture and expansion plans.”

He continued, “As we expand across the continent, every investment is designed to solve real challenges and open new opportunities. The new mobile service in Namibia is yet another example of that – a private, affordable service that gives customers freedom, control, and confidence in their connectivity.”

He added, “This launch marks a defining moment in our journey: a full mobile service going live across Namibia. I want to thank everyone in the Namibian team who went the extra mile to make this happen. We’re not just launching a product but challenging the status quo.”
