Sanlam Kenya PLC has marked a significant turning point in its transformation journey by announcing plans to rebrand as Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) PLC.
The proposal will be presented at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on October 9, 2025, where shareholders will discuss and vote on the resolution.
Continuation of Sanlam Group-Allianz SE partnership
This action is a continuation of Sanlam Group’s partnership with Allianz SE, a multinational financial services company headquartered in Germany.
The partnership, which was first announced in 2022, will combine Allianz’s global experience with Sanlam’s well-established presence to bolster the African insurance market.
If approved, the new name will take effect after the Registrar of Companies issues the Certificate of Change of Name.
According to a notice issued by Sanlam Kenya’s Group Company Secretary, Emma Wachira, the EGM will take place virtually on October 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
Agenda of the Shareholders’ meeting
The gathering will verify the notice convening the meeting, table proxies, and verify that a quorum is present.
Stakeholders will cast their votes for the special resolution to rename the business and give adequate attention for any additional business that is brought up.
Shareholders must register using the designated USSD code or by emailing the company’s registrar. Registration opened on September 16 and will end on October 6, 2025.
The company allows Shareholders who cannot attend the meeting to send representatives as long as legitimate proxy forms are submitted to the company’s registrar by October 7th.
Before the commencement of the EGM, Sanlam Kenya had made several avenues available for shareholders to submit inquiries. Stakeholders can submit questions by SMS, email, or in person at the company’s offices. The business promises to answer all questions by October 8, 2025.
Shareholders will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly during the live meeting via the livestream system or the USSD platform.
Significance of Sanlam Kenya’s rebranding to Sanlam Allianz Holdings
The proposed rebranding from Sanlam Kenya PLC to Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) PLC highlights how closely Sanlam’s operations in Africa are being integrated with Allianz’s worldwide insurance network.
Adopting the Allianz name could provide Sanlam Kenya with greater financial support, access to a broader range of expertise, and enhanced brand recognition.
The name-change’s anticipated benefits for policyholders and consumers include more innovation, a wider range of insurance and investment products, and possibly higher standards of customer service.
Industry experts believe the rebrand could help speed up adoption by appealing to younger and more tech-savvy consumers in Kenya, where insurance uptake has struggled to expand beyond niche markets.
Sanlam Kenya to post EGM results within 24 hours of meeting
Sanlam Kenya promised to post the EGM results on its website within 24 hours of the meeting to maintain transparency. In the lead-up to the meeting, shareholders were also urged to monitor updates online.
Before the meeting, registered shareholders and proxies will receive SMS confirmations with login information and links to the livestream.
Sanlam Group’s support is expected to help the name change resolution pass, but the change is more than just a symbolic one. It shows that the company wants to strengthen its position in the region’s financial sector, expand its product line, and bring itself closer to international standards.
If it is approved, Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) PLC will be among the leading companies in the East African insurance market, with a well-known and reputable brand worldwide.
