The second edition of Tech Convergence, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association’s (NiRA) premier conference on the digital economy, has been announced.
The event, which is set for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the upscale Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, is expected to be a historic assembly for Nigeria’s digital community.
Strategic discussion on Nigeria as a digital powerhouse
Tech Convergence 2.0, with the theme “Building Nigeria’s Digital Future: The Internet as a Catalyst for Growth,” will convene prominent figures from academia, industry, government, civil society, and the private sector to discuss tactics for establishing Nigeria as a major digital powerhouse in Africa and beyond.
Nigeria’s economy continues to evolve due to the internet, which has fueled the growth of digital services, e-commerce, fintech, education technology, and creative industries.
Recent reports indicate that Nigeria’s digital economy is a major engine of innovation and growth, accounting for more than 18 per cent of the country’s GDP.
Significance of protecting Nigeria’s online identity
In a speech before the conference, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, President of NiRA, emphasised the significance of protecting Nigeria’s online identity.
He said, “Nigeria’s digital economy is a powerhouse, but to sustain its momentum, we must fortify our local internet infrastructure and identity. That is the essence of Tech Convergence uniting stakeholders to safeguard our digital sovereignty through the .ng domain and to unlock the full potential of a connected Nigeria.”
He added that the internet is no longer merely an enabler but the catalyst for digital transformation with the.ng domain representing ownership, trust, and sovereignty in Nigeria’s online space.
Mr Seun Kehinde, the event chairman, emphasised the conference’s stakeholder-centric design.
He remarked, “Tech Convergence is more than just an event; it is a collaborative platform where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are built, and solutions are crafted. As stakeholders, we are responsible for ensuring the internet continues to drive inclusive growth and innovation in Nigeria.”
Flashback to the first edition of Tech Convergence
The first edition, which took place in Lagos in 2024, attracted over 400 attendees and 25 speakers from various tech sectors. The speakers discussed the internet’s ability to close the gap between digital content and the creative industry.
Building on this achievement, Tech Convergence 2.0 will include policy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, local content, and emerging technologies.
NiRA’s significant milestone
NiRA has invested in bolstering Nigeria’s internet infrastructure to promote security and innovation.
Its notable achievements include establishing the .ng Academy, which trains thousands of Nigerians in digital skills, domain entrepreneurship, and internet governance.
