Glovo launched its latest Glovo Academy in Abuja, doubling down on its mission to assist Nigerian SMEs. Glovo announced that over 1,000 Abuja firms had joined, providing over N11 billion in value since 2022.
Glovo’s dedication to bolstering Nigerian SMEs is evident in the city, where approximately two million orders have been fulfilled and robust development has been reported. “Every partner we work with contributes to the Nigerian economy,” said Reni Onafeko, Head of Growth and Abuja Business at Glovo Nigeria.
Supporting growth for Nigerian SMEs
The Glovo Academy is an in-person learning and development initiative designed to equip SMEs with practical training and digital tools. The program aims to help businesses optimise operations, expand their brands, and increase online sales through Glovo’s platform.
Onafeko noted that Abuja has witnessed a 30% year-on-year increase in order volumes, emphasising the importance of digital literacy in helping SMEs formalise their operations and sustain growth.
A government representative, Ifeoma Williams, Special Adviser to the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, stressed that “SMEs remain the backbone of any economy,” highlighting their role in contributing roughly 40% of Nigeria’s GDP and generating over 80% of employment.
Building capacity beyond deliveries
Glovo’s initiative extends beyond simple deliveries. Kolawole Adeniyi, Head of Commercial at Glovo Nigeria, pointed out that Nigeria is among Glovo’s fastest-growing markets, supporting thousands of businesses and riders.
The academy focuses on capacity building rather than quick transactions, helping entrepreneurs thrive in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy.
Elaaborating on the academy’s purpose, Onafeko explained, “This academy is about building lasting capacity, not just driving transactions.” Moreover, Glovo’s investment in local SMEs aligns with efforts to develop a sustainable ecosystem that increasingly adopts technology and digital tools for business expansion.
Glovo’s latest Glovo Academy edition boldly promotes SME growth in Abuja, recognising their importance to Nigeria’s economy and digital revolution. Glovo helps Nigerian SMEs capitalise on market growth and scale sustainably through training, advising, and digital solutions.
