Nokia has introduced state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI)-powered solutions to increase fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network dependability and revolutionise how broadband operators oversee and maintain their infrastructure.

Nokia’s Altiplano platform now includes AI-powered digital twin capabilities that offer operators a unified, real-time view of active and passive fibre components. This significantly enhances network visibility and operational efficiency.

Building smarter FTTH networks

Operators deploying FTTH often struggle with limited insights into the passive outside plant and the underground and aerial fibre links connecting homes and businesses. This lack of visibility can result in costly mistakes, including service delays, inventory mismatches, and repeated truck rolls.

Nokia’s digital twin capabilities unify data from active and passive network components to produce an exact, complete digital clone of the FTTH infrastructure.

Danvig De Bruyn, CEO of Fibertime, which partners with Nokia for fibre deployments in South Africa, said, “Nokia’s automation and AI-powered tools not only help us to improve operational efficiencies but also enhance the reliability of our FTTH network. We can detect disruptions earlier and resolve incidents more quickly to improve the subscriber experience”.

AI-Powered tools for faster fixes and cost savings

Nokia’s Altiplano platform incorporates advanced AI models that continuously validate network topology and resource data to detect and predict faults before they escalate. Essential characteristics include a Subscriber Line Identifier that confirms splitter connections with the least disturbance and a Fibre Health Analyser that checks fibre link conditions, isolates faults, and analyses root cause.

Geert Heyninck, GM of Broadband Networks at Nokia, highlighted the impact: “By eliminating blind spots in FTTH deployments with a unified network view, operators can reduce operational costs, detect issues faster, and build more reliable networks”.

These AI tools are compatible with diverse inventory and geospatial software, aiding new fibre rollouts and maintenance of existing networks.

The move follows expanding worldwide broadband demand and FTTH infrastructure developments. Nokia’s AI-driven solutions decrease costs, disruptions, and service quality to help operators meet growing connectivity needs.

Nokia’s FTTH AI technologies help operators maximise fibre broadband’s potential with intelligent automation that maintains connections and customer satisfaction.
