The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has successfully deployed its 25th 400GE port globally.
This development marks a significant milestone in their mission to provide its members with scalable, high-performing interconnection solutions.
400GE port increased demand for ultra-high bandwidth connectivity
The demand for ultra-high bandwidth connectivity has increased since the first 400GE port was made available in 2021 due to the exponential growth in workloads related to cloud services, video streaming, gaming, and artificial intelligence.
A 400GE connection provides four times the capacity of a typical 100GE port, allowing networks to future-proof their infrastructure by combining traffic, simplifying operations, and incorporating resilience.
To facilitate 400GE delivery throughout its interconnection ecosystems in Manchester and London, LINX has made significant investments in Nokia’s next-generation hardware optical technologies. With this investment, members can grow swiftly and effectively while preserving the dependability and resilience that support the global internet.
LINX expresses optimism
Jennifer Holmes, CEO of LINX, commented: “Reaching 25 active 400GE ports is a testament to the evolving needs of our members and the strength of our technical infrastructure. We’ve seen a clear shift towards higher capacity services, and LINX is proud to be at the forefront of enabling this transformation.”
“We’re proud to lead the way in delivering superior interconnection services in the UK, not just for the world’s largest content networks, but for the UK’s local providers who rely on us to keep their traffic flowing reliably, securely, and within the UK. This achievement reflects our commitment to technical excellence, scalability, and supporting a thriving digital ecosystem across the UK.”
LINX is expanding its reach beyond the UK by supporting interconnection platforms in the US and Africa as digital transformation speeds up. The 400GE milestone is just one of many innovations in LINX’s continuous efforts to keep the internet accessible, robust, and future-ready.
