The Nigerian fashion-tech landscape has achieved a significant milestone as Xplore Fashion World, a proudly Nigeria-owned streetwear and fashion-tech brand, launched “X-Fit” Nigeria’s first homegrown Augmented Reality (AR) Virtual Try-On solution for fashion e-commerce.
Developed entirely in-house and powered by Snap AR technology, X-Fit represents a new frontier for Africa’s digital retail ecosystem. The innovation addresses one of the most persistent challenges in online shopping, high return rate and the uncertainty of fit and style, by enabling users to visualize how garments appear on their bodies before making a purchase.
Online shopping often comes with the risk of mismatched expectations. X-Fit bridges that gap by allowing users to virtually try-on garments in real time. With just their smartphone camera, shoppers can see how outfits look and fit on them through hyper-realistic AR overlays, helping them make more confident purchase decisions.
The solution was conceived and led by Temitope Kamilu, Digital Marketing Specialist at Xplore Fashion World, whose leadership guided the adaptation of Snap’s AR technology into a fully localized, user-centered solution for the Nigerian market.
“Our goal with X-Fit was simple. To solve a problem that frustrates millions of online shoppers and prove that innovation can be homegrown,” said Temitope Kamilu. “By allowing customers to visualize their preferred styles in real time, we’re making online shopping smarter, more engaging, and globally competitive.”
While major global fashion brands like Nike, Prada, Warby Parker and Ray-Ban have experimented with AR for eyewear, shoes and accessories, X-Fit marks the first Nigerian-built adaptation of AR Virtual Try-On technology specifically for fashion e-commerce.
While the solution was developed using Snap AR’s framework as its foundation, the concept, design, and full technical implementation were executed in-house by the Xplore Fashion World, a clear demonstration of how local talent can harness global technology to drive innovation.
Early adoption results have been impressive, showing a 15% drop in product returns, over 100,000 user interactions, and a 20% increase in conversion rates as shoppers engage more deeply with digital products. These metrics highlight both the product’s potential and Nigeria’s growing
capacity to deliver world-class fashion-tech solutions.
According to Ayomide Akinsanya, Founder and Creative Director of Xplore Fashion World, the launch goes beyond technology, it’s represents a broader cultural evolution in how Africans connect with fashion and innovation.
“This is more than a tech upgrade, it’s a cultural shift. X-Fit allows our community to connect with streetwear in a more personal way, while showing the world that African brands can lead in fashion-tech innovation,” Akinsanya said.
By merging creativity, technology, and local insight, Xplore Fashion World has positioned itself at the forefront of Africa’s fashion-tech revolution. The successful deployment of X-Fit reflects a growing ecosystem where homegrown solutions are not just keeping pace with global trends but setting new standards for innovation.
As Nigeria continues to establish itself as a digital innovation hub, X-Fit stands as compelling evidence that transformative technology can be conceptualized, developed, and scaled locally by Nigerian minds, for global impact.
