With the topic “Leaving No One Behind: Digital Assets, Equity, and Empowerment,” the forum aims to convene community stakeholders, technology professionals, and policymakers to explore practical solutions for bridging the nation’s digital divide.

NCC aims for growth in digital inclusion

The initiative is part of the Commission’s commitment to “facilitate a conducive environment to build infrastructure for innovation and inclusion,” as well as to close the gaps between policy and practice for national development, according to a statement released by Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs at the NCC.

The one-day seminar will cover topics such as creating inclusive digital policies, enhancing infrastructure, developing programs for adaptive digital literacy, and reducing the cost while increasing the accessibility of digital services.

To further Nigeria’s digital transformation, Ukoha stated that the forums will provide a nationwide platform for cooperation among legislators, business executives, and community stakeholders.

She also emphasised that Africa has the world’s youngest population, with roughly 60 per cent of its individuals under the age of 25, and Nigeria contributes significantly to that ratio. Ukoha went on to say, “The Commission is committed to harnessing this demographic asset for innovation and growth.”

The NCC clarified that the awareness-raising initiative is a component of its broader goal to ensure that Nigeria’s digital transformation benefits all aspects of society. Additionally, it reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s over 140 million Internet users.

To investigate how digital innovation can empower marginalised populations, advance equity, and contribute to national development, the event will bring together key figures from the public and private sectors, as well as development agencies.

Partners and stakeholders of the event

The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), FintechNGR, Association of Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ATCON), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) are among the important partners that are working together to organise the event.

Additionally, there will be panel talks and displays featuring fintech companies, entrepreneurs, and students presenting innovative projects that demonstrate the potential of Nigeria’s digital economy.

To ensure greater access and participation for Nigerians in all regions, the NCC announced that the event will be livestreamed nationwide via a dedicated webpage at scf.ncc.gov.ng.
