Building a regulated financial ecosystem

Zazzau Microfinance Bank, which is now known as Rank Microfinance Bank, and AjoMoney, a digital group savings platform, are the two main acquisitions that have facilitated Rank’s transformation.

This uncommon amalgamation enables Rank to integrate a regulated financial framework with trusted social networks.

With a Central Bank of Nigeria Tier 2 microfinance license, Rank can accept deposits, issue loans, and offer treasury-backed savings products.

Its integration with the NIBSS Instant Payment system enables real-time money transfers, extending services beyond savings to payments and investment.

According to Rank’s CEO, Femi Iromini, “We can now go beyond savings to payments. We can go into investing. And we are seeing the interests already.” This positions Rank as one of Nigeria’s pioneering fintechs, providing financial services at a community rather than an individual level.

Digitising Africa’s community finance traditions

Rank’s flagship product leverages the power of group savings through trusted networks such as trader associations and cooperatives. The company’s objective is unambiguous: to transform Africa’s centuries-old community finance traditions into scalable, wealth-building instruments through digitisation.

Iromini explains, “There is still more we can do with communities. For instance, we can create products around people being able to make payments together.” By combining social trust with technology and regulatory approval, Rank aims to make collective prosperity accessible, helping more Africans manage, grow, and share their money in a secure digital environment.

Rank’s dedication to converting traditional African loan and saving practices into cutting-edge financial solutions that meet the demands of today’s interconnected communities is demonstrated by this daring rebrand and strategy change.
