Recent news of this brave move by Cisco shows that the company wants to change its communication tools, especially the widely used Webex platform.

EzDubs, founded in 2023 by Padmanabhan Krishnamurthy, Amrutavarsh Kinagi, and Kareem Nassar, gained popularity with its voice-preserving translation technology and $4.2 million in seed funding from Venture Highway and former WhatsApp executive Neeraj Arora.

Enhancing Webex with Live Translation

The acquisition signifies that Cisco will incorporate EzDubs’ distinctive technology into its Cisco Collaboration portfolio, encompassing both hardware and software offerings.

According to Snorre Kjesbu, Cisco’s SVP of Collaboration, “The EzDubs team will join Cisco Collaboration, working side-by-side with our product, engineering, and go-to-market teams. Together, we will chart a new course for the industry, one where AI doesn’t just support collaboration, but truly empowers it.”

Live translation capabilities will soon be available to users of Webex’s video calling and messaging services. These capabilities will enable seamless multilingual conversation while preserving each speaker’s original voice.

This integration also includes plans to make the technology available to partners and developers via application programming interfaces (APIs), which will broaden its reach and increase its impact.

EzDubs’ co-founder Kareem Nassar, who previously worked in Cisco’s Speech AI group, helped ensure a smooth transition of the startup’s technology into Cisco’s infrastructure.

However, EzDubs will discontinue its consumer apps by December 15, 2025, as focus shifts to enterprise applications within Cisco’s ecosystem.

This strategic acquisition places Cisco in a stronger position to compete with other tech giants rolling out AI-driven communication tools. By embedding advanced, real-time translation capabilities into Webex, Cisco aims to reshape how global teams connect and collaborate, driving the future of workplace conversations across languages.
