At its San Francisco headquarters, the corporation unveiled the latest version, calling it a major step toward integrating worldwide digital payments and verified identity.

The World App is now a more feature-rich platform, with features similar to those of popular financial apps, rather than just a simple digital wallet.

Users globally can now withdraw crypto with World App

Through the World Wallet and the recently launched virtual accounts, a mechanism that the business claims functions similarly to Venmo, users can now send, deposit, and withdraw cryptocurrencies directly.

USDC, EURC, wrapped Ethereum, wrapped Bitcoin, and more than 100 other tokens are among the supported assets.

The goal of World, introduced in 2023, was to verify human identity amid increasingly complex AI-generated information.

Altman reaffirmed this difficulty during the announcement, stating, “It’s really hard to both identify unique people and do that in a privacy-preserving way.”

World Chat, an encrypted messenger that provides a safe communication channel using World ID authentication, is the most notable new feature.

To increase trust and transparency, the chat employs Signal-equivalent end-to-end encryption and colour-coded message bubbles, with grey for unverified accounts and blue for verified persons.

To verify authenticity, profile pictures are compared to Orb-captured photos saved on users’ smartphones.

World App now supports virtual bank accounts and trading

The program now allows users to receive wages or deposit money into virtual bank accounts before converting them to cryptocurrency, in addition to chat.

Unverified users can also use these features, increasing the app’s usability. Along with real-world asset tokens, such as tokenised gold, the platform also facilitates trading, swapping, and interactions with tokens in the World Chain ecosystem.

Converting iris scans into encrypted IrisCodes, the World’s identity procedure, is still essential to its ecosystem. The company wants to significantly increase adoption even if it has authenticated fewer than 20 million users.

Additionally, Tools for Humanity is developing Orb Minis, portable verification tools that can be integrated into consumer products and enable consumers to perform scans from home.
