National spectrum roadmap targets investment surge

NCC’s national spectrum roadmap 2026–2030 sets out transparent rules for spectrum use, drawing investor cash into telecom networks. Dr Maida declared at the forum, “The Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030 is about creating a transparent, predictable, and enabling regulatory environment that supports investment, encourages innovation, and improves service quality for all Nigerians.”

This national spectrum roadmap directly addresses Nigeria’s growing data requirements, ensuring broader coverage from Lagos to rural areas. Stakeholders evaluated proposals for the lower 6 GHz spectrum to facilitate Wi-Fi 6 and for the 60 GHz frequency for high-speed wireless connections.

Maida added, “Our national ambitions are growing; we want faster speeds, wider coverage, better service quality, stronger innovation and greater inclusion.”

Digital transparency drives broadband expansion

The national spectrum roadmap 2026–2030 prioritises open consultations to ensure digital transparency across Nigeria’s telecom sector. Head of Spectrum Administration Atiku Lawal, standing in for Maida, stressed how these steps open new bands to meet exploding connectivity needs.

Spectrum allocation predictability boosts mobile and fixed broadband services for operators. Multi-gigabit system principles and the roadmap ensure Nigeria meets digital milestones by 2030. This was a game-changer for service upgrades and economic growth, according to industry players.

NCC’s national spectrum roadmap 2026–2030 builds on ongoing Abuja forums, with final tweaks expected soon to roll out nationwide. Telecom firms now eye accelerated rollouts of 5G and beyond, backed by firm regulatory clarity. This push cements Nigeria’s spot in Africa’s digital race.
