InterPositive enhances filmmaking creativity with AI tools
InterPositive was developed to ensure that new technologies enhance human creativity in filmmaking rather than replace it. While maintaining the creative intent of directors, cinematographers, and crews, its AI tools are designed to address on-set issues, such as lost shots, background replacements, and inconsistent lighting.
“In creating InterPositive, I sought to protect the power of human creativity and the people behind it,” Affleck said.
“Our tools are designed for responsible exploration while keeping creative decisions in the hands of artists, ensuring that technology benefits the story being told.”
InterPositive founder emphasises production-based AI development for filmmaking
According to Affleck, the company’s development methodology is purposefully based on actual production methods. To ensure AI models could comprehend visual logic, maintain editorial consistency, and adhere to cinematic conventions, he and a small crew of engineers, researchers, and creatives recorded proprietary datasets on controlled sound stages.
Executives at Netflix underlined that the acquisition demonstrates the company’s dedication to innovation driven by creators. The technology from InterPositive “is purpose-built for filmmakers and showrunners to work with tools that naturally support their creative visions,” according to Elizabeth Stone, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Netflix.
Netflix executive expresses enthusiasm about InterPositive
Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, noted that InterPositive carries on a long tradition of artists driving technology innovation in storytelling, and that the tools are meant to enhance creative freedom rather than limit it or replace the labour of writers, directors, actors, and crews.
The acquisition’s financial terms were not disclosed. According to Netflix, the action highlights the company’s continued investment in AI tools that enable creators to maintain human creativity and artistic judgment at the foundation of filmmaking.
