It provides structured support to help participants move from initial concepts to the development of a minimum viable product, combining mentorship, funding, and hands-on guidance.

Programme targets social impact innovation

At its core, the Blue Ridge Labs founder fellowship is built on the idea that well-supported entrepreneurs can drive meaningful social change. The programme prioritises founders who bring lived or learned experience to the problems they seek to address.

Organisers say the fellowship supports the development of technology-driven ventures, encourages experimentation, and promotes innovation aligned with economic mobility. It also aims to build a network of mission-driven entrepreneurs working towards scalable solutions.

Open to founders without technical background

The Blue Ridge Labs founder fellowship is designed for individuals at the earliest stages of entrepreneurship. Applicants are not required to have a business plan, prototype, or technical expertise to be considered.

The programme welcomes aspiring founders with fresh ideas, individuals passionate about solving social and economic challenges, and those ready to move from concept to execution. This accessibility makes the fellowship appealing to a wide range of applicants across different sectors.

Two-phase structure supports idea validation

The fellowship, designed for individuals developing solutions to pressing social issues, consists of two stages. The first phase is a virtual programme focused on research, discovery, and testing ideas with real users.

In the second phase, around 25 participants are selected to continue in person at the programme’s workspace in Brooklyn. During this stage, founders collaborate closely to develop a functional MVP, with support from experienced mentors and access to funding.

Funding and mentorship drive venture growth

Participants in the Blue Ridge Labs founder fellowship receive weekly expert-led sessions covering product development, growth strategies, and fundraising. They also benefit from one-on-one mentorship from founders, engineers, and product specialists.

The programme provides access to the Design Insights Group community for user testing and feedback, alongside a $20,000 stipend to support venture development. Fellows also gain exposure to networks in technology, philanthropy, and policy through Robin Hood.

Hands-on learning shapes entrepreneurial skills

The Blue Ridge Labs founder fellowship places strong emphasis on practical learning and rapid iteration. Participants are encouraged to test ideas quickly, learn from setbacks, and refine their solutions through continuous feedback.

Key learning outcomes include developing user-centred design skills, building and testing prototypes, understanding product-market fit, and gaining insights into fundraising and scaling ventures.

Applicants can apply through the official portal.
